Nick Barfoot

July 1st, 2009

These are some photos I took of my friend Nick, who runs Ontario Scene. We caught a Jays game and went over some photo and interview details for the website. With some time to kill, I took some quick portraits. These ones are pretty basic, but there’s one more that I’m still working on and really excited to see finished.

Good Rats Radio

June 27th, 2009

I met up with my friends in Good Rats Radio to talk about music and their band for an interview I was doing. We had some time to kill before doing the interview, so we wandered around Queen street for a bit and took some photos. I figured I’d get some good stuff to go with the interview, but they liked them enough to use for promo and their new Myspace that’s in the works. We just took advantage of some props we found and natural light and the results are pretty sweet.

Dan, Gavin & Aaron

June 26th, 2009

A couple weeks ago I was hanging out with Dan Cohen, chatting about his side project Hunting Owls. We started off at The Rex and soon moved to Grange park for a bit quieter and more sunny setting. After finishing up we headed over to Trinity-Bellwoods to meet up with Gavin and Aaron, who along with Dan make up a third of Stop Drop N Skank for a photoshoot in the park to play around with Gavin’s new reflector.

It was wicked having a chance to talk about music and photography with these guys and get some casual shots in.

Nicole Scott

June 25th, 2009

I met Nicole through a common friend of ours, Cal, who I used to work with and have shot before. We headed to the roof of a parking garage in Whitby with some lights and an hour time limit. It didn’t translate in the photos that I ended up deciding on, but the location has an amazing view of Lake Ontario and the suburbs with the Toronto skyline, including the CN tower, in the background. I’m stoked to revisit this area, but I’ll have to be quicker next time to avoid security. Shooting in front of one of their cameras didn’t help.

This shoot ended up as being pushed for time and more of a light experiment than anything, so I’m hoping we can set something up again soon with a better pace and stronger concept.

Melody “Lamb”

June 22nd, 2009

A couple months ago I started contributing to The Singing Lamb marking my second website for concert photography. Not long after joining I met up with Melody Lau, who runs the show to talk music and eventually take some photos. It was just a quick, fun shoot but there were some good take aways from the day. Make sure to check out the North By Northeast coverage over at The Lamb.

Brothers

June 1st, 2009

Even though I’ve been working hard to take a lot more photos and practice at every opportunity, I don’t really have many of myself. So for a late Mother’s Day gift I grabbed my brother and we setup some lights out in front of our house in our effort to replace the aging photos of ourselves. I still have so much to learn with using lights and I’m pretty terrible right now, but it’s a lot of fun. Having that much more to worry about and control in your image can be overwhelming, but it’s a welcome challenge.

A Weekend With Holding Sky

June 1st, 2009

I spent last weekend with my good friends in Holding Sky. They had three shows lined up to play over a 24 hour period going from Brantford to London and ending in Alliston. I’m still going through the photos from the shows, but here are some of the guys.

Kevin’s Prom

May 27th, 2009

My brother Kevin had his prom two weeks ago, so I was happy to take some photos of him and his date in a natural setting to go with whatever photos he’d receive from the night itself. I had maybe 10 minutes to snap these, which had me deciding on busting out a reflector and taking of the cover to use it as a diffusor. I’m really happy with the results and it sounds like he had a wicked night too.

Lake Chugging - Kareem

May 27th, 2009

I crashed at my buddy Kareem’s place after the show headlined by The Human Abstract, which is a bit of a trek since he’s out in Etobicoke. We had some time to catch up and take some photos down by the lake near Mimico the next morning. I’m pretty stoked on how they turned out and it was a wicked casual shoot.
